2022 Introductions from Druid City Daylily Garden

Druid City Daylily Garden

2022 Introductions

This year, I have 5 new introductions that I feel will do very well all across the United States. This year's collection contains 4 diploids and 1 tetraploid. All of the introductions are from patterned breeding and all introductions are very limited. Please send me a text to 404-626-2869 or send a message on Facebook Messenger to ensure that the plants you would like are available.  You may email me also at wilprof@aol.com but I sometimes go for a period of time without checking my personal email.

All of the 2022 introductions are listed as single fan divisions but I try to be very generous with what I send when I can. There will be NO bonus with new introductions. Shipping is $15 for the first three plants and $2 per plant after that. I ship priority mail through the USPS. Payment is due when you order. I accept check, money order, and paypal payments. Paypal payments should be sent to wilprof@aol.com. Shipping will begin after April 1st.

I have worked very diligently to produce plants with good hardiness, rust resistance, and great plant habit. I have also been very selective to ensure that my plants are not just "look alikes" of other plants already on the market. I also love to work with dormant plants. It has been my goal to have the majority of my introductions to exhibit dormancy and I am getting very close to that goal.

I do enjoy garden visitors and welcome those who have been Covid vaccinated and boosted to visit the garden in person.  I am open on weekends only.  Please call or text in advance so that I can ensure that I am home to greet you.  I have a working hybridizer's garden, not really a display garden.  As such, visitors should expect some uneven paths, maybe areas of mud, and paths that are not always uniform.  Good garden shoes should be worn and areas of the garden are not wheelchair or walker accessible.  Also, please don't expect the daylily beds to be weed free.  😀  I love nature and so you will find rabbits, bees, bugs, lizards, frogs, toads, and lots of birds in the garden.  I also have 4 wonderful pups who provide little other than love and loyalty as well as koi, goldfish, and shubunkins.  In addition, I have around 350 named Hosta along with my selected seedlings from several years of hybridizing.  Because the vole population has exploded in recent years, all Hosta are in pots.

The 2022 lineup...

I Believe In Unicorns (Art in Motion x Waves of Joy)  $100 SF

TET, 28" scape, 6" blooms, 3-5 way branching, 18-25 buds, DOR, RE, fertile both ways however pods take persistence

This was a surprise dormant coming out of two southern daylilies.  Waves of Joy did not perform well for me due to its extremely evergreen nature.  It was continually knocked back with our freeze-thaw cycles all winter long and just dwindled down to nothing.  In contrast, this dormant kid does extremely well and has proven to be a beautiful and hardy plant.  It has nice sturdy scapes and lovely foliage.  Most scapes on established plants have 5 branches.  Photos can't capture the beauty of this cream pink flower with red eye.  The green from the throat radiates out into the eye especially on the sepals.  Could be a valuable plant for those who are exploring patterned red eyes.  Very Limited!

Crumpalumptious (Kaleidoscope Treasure x Unconditional Acceptance) x (Super Fancy Face x Kaleidoscopic Intrigue) $100 SF

DIP, 26" scape, 6-7" blooms, 4-5 way branching, 20-25 buds, DOR, RE, fertile both ways

I finally have enough stock to release this amazing parent.  It is the sibling to last year's LET LOVE GROW and parent to last year's introductions CHAPSTICK BLONDE and FOREVER IN FLIGHT.  It is also in the background of many futures.   While the edge isn't as large as the edge on LET LOVE GROW and doesn't quite go completely around the petal edge, it is a double replica of the eyezone.  The flower itself is a beautiful clear cream and the eyezone is patterned in shades of purple.  Very Limited!

Make Magic Happen ((Starman's Quest x Rose F Kennedy) x (Super Fancy Face x Kaleidoscopic Intrigue)) x Live Long and Prosper $100 SF

DIP, 36" scape, 6" bloom, 4-5 way branching 20-24 buds, DOR, RE, easily fertile both ways

Imagine my astonishment when this applique showed up.  Where was the applique genes in the cross?  I can only surmise that it came from Unconditional Acceptance which is one of the parents of Live Long and Prosper.  Almost 20 years ago, I was breeding with Malachite Prism which I know is in the background of Unconditional Acceptance.  Regardless of where it came from, I am glad it appeared because it has been a great parent.  Big, beautiful  blooms will greet you for most of the growing season.  BREEDER'S TIP:  If you have Killer Clowns From Outer Space, cross the two together and make magic happen.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.  Very Limited!

Love That Binds (Live Long and Prosper x Feng Zhu)  $100 SF

DIP, 30" scapes, 6" blooms, 3-4 way branching, 18-24 buds, SEv, RE, fertile both ways

For those who have followed some of the Facebook diploid pages, this is a sibling to both 15-15 and 15-22.  This cross gave me some fantastic flowers.   This one has a buttercream base with a beautiful eye which can manifest in different patterns.  Most of these photos were taken in the hottest part of August when the eye is more broken.  The first photo shows the eye in the cooler part of the beginning of bloom season.  Very Limited!

Ripples of Hope (Live Long and Prosper x Feng Zhu)  $100 SF

DIP, 37" scape, 7" bloom, 3 way branching, 18 buds, SEv, RE, fertile both ways

This is a full sibling to Love That Binds.  It is bigger and has a taller scape.  The base color is bright yellow/gold.  Will not be missed in the garden due to its size.  Very Limited!

For those who want them all, as long as stock allows, I will offer all 5 for a discounted price of $450 with free shipping.

THE LINE UP...

CHAPSTICK BLONDE (Marchant 2021)

Chapstick Blonde (Marchant 2021)  Diploid, DOR, M, 30" scape, 6.5" bloom, 3-4 way branching, 15-18 buds, RE

Live Long and Prosper x ((Kaleidoscope Treasure x Unconditional Acceptance) x (Super Fancy Face x Kaleidoscopic Intrigue))
$125 SF

This is one of two introductions that I have chosen to name in memory of one of the most courageous, fierce, funny, and vivacious women that I have ever known.  Tracy married one of my friends who is also one of the most amazing kindergarten teachers ever and we hit it off immediately.  We shared a twisted sense of humor and she got me.  She would joke that whenever the two of us got together, she always needed chapstick.  She was a devoted mother, doting young grandmother, and a fiercely loyal wife.  If anyone thought for a second that they could get away with bad mouthing teachers, they had better think twice about doing it anywhere she could hear or read it.  She loved her husband Cory with every fiber of her being and was his most vocal and biggest cheerleader.  A few years ago, I also had the privilege of being able to hire her daughter to teach at the school where I was principal.

Tracy was a flight attendant extraordinaire.  I can only imagine being on one of her flights.  In the winter of 2018/2019, she was diagnosed with cancer and this fall she took her final flight.  I can't help but think that somewhere in the cosmos, she and the notorious RBG are having cocktails and one hell of a laugh.

Chapstick Blonde has given me some great kids.  It will breed in many different directions, so let your imagination run wild.

FOREVER IN FLIGHT (Marchant 2021)

Forever in Flight (Marchant 2021) Diploid, DOR, M, 25" scape, 6" bloom, 4 way branching, 20-24 buds, RE
(Unconditional Acceptance x Chaotic Design) x ((Kaleidoscope Treasure x Unconditional Acceptance) x (Super Fancy Face x Kaleidoscopic Intrigue))
$100 DF

This introduction is also being named in memory of Tracy Bell.  She loved being a flight attendant.  She was a people person and I doubt that she ever met a stranger.  She was always on the go, the life of the party, and would light up a room.  I have been very selfish since her departure, refusing to think about or accept the fact that she was no longer with us.  I guess I thought that as long as I didn't admit it, it couldn't be true.  But as the time came to choose names for this year's flowers, I knew that I wanted to honor my amazing friend with two of those flowers.  So with lots of tears and some wonderful memories, I have come to accept the fact that the physical Tracy isn't here but I believe that she will be forever in flight and her chi is all around us still loving, laughing, and living through those she adored.

This flower and Chapstick Blonde share the same genetics.  The pod parent of Forever in Flight was the beautiful pink sibling to Live Long and Prosper.  And it is also a phenomenal parent.  The first time I posted a photo of it as a young seedling, someone remarked that it "has sparkles in it".

REMEMBERING LIVES LIVED (Marchant 2021)

Remembering Lives Lived (Marchant 2021) Diploid, DOR, M, 28-30" scape, 6" bloom, 3-4 way branching, 18 buds, RE
(Life's a Beach x Feng Zhu)
$300 SF sold out

Boy has this one created a lot of excitement over the past few years.  It has been on a lot of wish lists since it first bloomed.  While I have bloomed some amazing kids from it, I haven't even begun to scratch the surface only getting my 2017 and 2018 seeds planted just this summer.  In the seedlings that I have bloomed from it, a number of them do demonstrate the green burnouts that make it so unique.  This one will most definitely be shipped as a SF division.  I expect it to be gone as soon as my website goes public.  This one has been named to remember those who have lost their lives in this pandemic.

In my humble opinion, this one is going to be a game changer in the daylily world.  And just imagine what could happen when it is converted.  If I didn't already have it, I would take out a second mortgage to get it.

Unlikely Angels (Marchant 2021)

Unlikely Angels (Marchant 2021) Diploid, DOR, M, 28-30" scape, 6" bloom, 3-4 way branching, 18 buds, RE
(Life's a Beach x Feng Zhu)
$75 DF

This is the little sister of Remembering Lives Lived.  When these bloomed in the seedling bed, along with 10-15 of their siblings, I just knew that I had gotten the cross mislabeled.  How could these not come from Deep Impact or something similar.  So, I remade the cross.  The following year I remade the remake.  All three rounds of seedlings shared many of the same characteristics, although each time there were a few creams and yellows.  In the second batch, there were a few patterns.  But, then one morning, I was taking a good look at Life's a Beach, and on this particular day, it was also exhibiting the green burnouts of Remembering Lives Lived.  While this cutie may not take your breath away like its sibling, it is quite nice in its own right.  And, the genetics are identical.  The foliage on this one stays quite small.

Let Love Grow (Marchant 2021)

Let Love Grow (Marchant 2021) Diploid, DOR, M, 7" bloom, 3-4 way branching, 18 buds, RE
(Kaleidoscope Treasure x Unconditional Acceptance) x (Super Fancy Face x Kaleidoscopic Intrigue)
$125 SF

I believe the photos can describe this flower better than I ever could with words.  This thick edged diploid holds genes for applique, patterns, and dormancy.  When it reaches clump strength and has multiple blooms open on the same day, it is spectacular.

Shattered Image (Marchant 2021)

Shattered Image (Marchant 2021) Diploid, DOR, M, 28" scape, 6" bloom, 3-4 way branching, 15-18 buds, RE
(Live Long and Prosper x Like a Shepherd)
$100 SF

The first of about 3 introductions that I will have from this cross.  This is the darkest of them all.  All of the seedlings from this cross that I selected to keep for observation were uniquely different from one another in their coloring and patterns.

Chaotic Rainbow (Marchant 2021)

Chaotic Rainbow (Marchant 2021) Diploid, DOR, M, 28" scape, 7" bloom, 3-4 way branching, 15-18 buds, RE
(Unconditional Acceptance x Chaotic Design) x (Super Fancy Face x Kaleidoscopic Intrigue)
$150 SF

If you have ever heard my presentation for Druid City Dayily Garden, you might remember the story of the "Well, it's my favorite shade of munge" that I tell about the time that David Kirchhoff was walking in my garden and called me over to tell me what a beautiful daylily this was.  I quipped back, "But it's munge".  And then David proceeded to tell me that it was his favorite shade of munge.

This one is quite unexplored due to the fact that it was on the far side of the garden for five years and I seldom made it over to that part of the garden before I had to head to school each morning.  In the fall of 2019, I moved it into the area that I work each morning.  So, I have bloomed fewer than 10  seedlings from it.  It is an unexplored territory.  Have fun!!

I will release about half of my "To Sell" inventory this spring and then the remainder in the fall of 2021.

Fresh Out of Forgiveness (Marchant 2021)

Fresh Out of Forgiveness (Marchant 2021) Diploid, DOR, M, 29" Scape, 6" bloom, 3-4 way branching, 15-18 buds, RE
(Wind Beneath My Sails x Unconditional Acceptance sibling)
$100 DF

This is the last introduction out of the group of siblings that gave me Harvest Delight and You Gotta Be My Baby.  And this one happens to be my favorite.  I did not use it in crosses until this past summer.  It also has all kinds of movement going for it and the curls go on for days.  I really love the bubblegum pink as it stands in perfect harmony with the green, green throat.

 (Insurrection Marchant 2021)

Insurrection (Marchant 2021) Tetraploid, SeV, M, 30" scape, 7" bloom, 3-4 way branching, 18-24 buds, RE
(A Crimson Roar x Velvet Throne)
$100 SF

My only tet introduction this year.  It's a beautiful saturated red flower with a lighter pink watermark above a yellow and then deep green throat.  The edge is surrounded by a small gold edge that can show teeth and tentacles courtesy of A Crimson Roar.  Until this past summer, I had not used this one in crosses.
